cardinal / monarch
my mother, whom it may not concern
my mother whom i love like the way the fly loves the venus trap the way it eats, consumes encases to devour, i am chlorophyll food to your burgundy hue maw /
i am the mantis in the gilded cage captured by you, entombed by you, i pinch and bite you take, break, away what little i have left of my poorly made skin exoskeleton broken /
nothing gets past you, everything through to me do you watch the way i weave orb spider summer, web design to monument a tapestry of all the wild things i can name to you: i see your hatred and turn it into /
gospel & music, hymns everything sings, so too must i the wind, the trees, the nature of being hums your cruelty, i turn to love you, but you eat me, devour me, and i will not let you /
A/N: I am homeless as of today. Moved out of my mom’s place and ran for it. Day one and I’m like upset and free and miserable and free at once. I’m afraid of being away from her I guess. Her reaction to it all really left a bad taste in my mouth (heh). Cardinals have always been important to me, and they eat monarchs and get sick from them. So the theme of eating of this poem is very important to me. If anyone has any further questions, I’d recommend looking into emotional incest/enmeshment. It is a common theme in my writing.
